Instrumental Music

LCC Symphonic Band

Performing an exciting array of music from many genres under the direction of Dr. Rob Davis, the LCC Symphonic band is an auditioned ensemble comprised of 50-60 music students and community members.

Auditions are required for all new members. Please see Auditions for more information, or contact LCC Symphonic Band Director Rob Davis (contact info. below).

The LCC Symphonic Band regularly features nationally recognized guest soloists. Recent artists include:

  • Foday Musa Suso - world famous griot from the Gambia
  • Dr. Jason Bergman - trumpet faculty, University of North Texas
  • Ryan Schultz - principal tuba, Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra
  • Brett Paschal - Director of Bands and Percussion, Lewis and Clark College

In addition to regular season concerts, the LCC Symphonic Band performs at the Mount St. Helens "Music on the Mountain" annual festival, and at LCC Commencement Ceremonies.

LCC Jazz Ensemble

A 20 piece big band comprised of music students and community members under the direction of Portland jazz pro Ryan Meagher, the LCC Jazz Ensemble performs a fun and exciting repertoire of jazz classics. In addition to regular concerts each term, the Jazz Ensemble often performs at college and community events.

Prior knowledge of jazz improvisation is not required. The group is open to trumpet, trombone, all saxophones, drum, bass, and guitar players with strong musical skills and good music reading abilities.

String Chamber Music

String Chamber Music members receive instruction in small ensemble performance, musicianship, and string instrument technique.

Activities include performance for concerts, events on campus in the community..
